Appointment to MAS Board of Directors

Singapore, 22 May 2006...The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has appointed Mr Chao Hick Tin, Attorney-General, Singapore, to its Board of Directors.  Mr Chao's appointment takes effect immediately, and his term of appointment will end on 31 Dec 2007.

2   Mr Chao joined the legal service in 1967.  He received his legal training at the University College London, where he obtained his Bachelor and Masters of Law degrees in 1965 and 1966 respectively.  He became the Head of the Civil Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers in 1982, and held that post until his appointment to the Supreme Court Bench on 1 Oct 1987 as Judicial Commissioner.  His elevation to the position of a Judge of the Supreme Court followed on 15 Nov 1990, and on 2 Aug 1999, he was appointed as a Judge of Appeal.  Mr Chao assumed the appointment of Attorney-General on 11 Apr 2006.  Mr Chao's appointment to the MAS Board will enhance the close working relationship that MAS enjoys with the Attorney-General's Chambers.

3   MAS also announced that Mr Lee Seiu Kin stepped down from the MAS Board with effect from 11 Apr 2006, following his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

4   The members of the MAS Board of Directors are as shown at the Appendix.
