September 20, 2023 NYC Office of the Mayor
Melissa Russo: Mayor Eric Adams telling me tonight on the phone he learned about the change this evening. He estimates it will help about 15,000 migrants; or, fewer than one in four of the migrants currently in city shelters. How much pressure will this relieve on the city budget, and does it go far enough, because as we know, there are also migrants from other countries that are troubled.
Mayor Eric Adams: Right. It is probably the first step in the right direction that we are looking to address, if we're saying 15,000 that fit this criteria and we're getting 10,000 a month, we clearly need to look at some of the other countries that are impacted.
