20 October 2022Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS)

Singaporeans who wish to join the aviation sector and existing aviation professionals seeking to grow their careers can now do so with the help of a one-stop online aviation resource portal providing end-to-end job facilitation, career and training advisory and counselling, and recruitment services. The OneAviation Careers Hub is a tripartite initiative to help the sector attract, grow and upskill the people it needs to support the ramp-up in air travel and future growth with the development of the new Changi Airport Terminal Five. Developed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Aerospace & Aviation cluster, NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), and supported by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workforce Singapore (WSG), the OneAviation Careers Hub was launched at the Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment Fair held at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport today.

2        The OneAviation Careers Hub is a one-stop online meeting place for all aviation employers and all Singaporeans interested in a career in aviation. Employers can use the portal to post job vacancies, while job seekers and existing aviation professionals can access critical information relating to career opportunities, skills upgrading and career coaching in the aviation sector:

a) Career Opportunities

Job seekers can access a wide range of curated aviation jobs from the full spectrum of aviation employers, including airlines, airport operator, ground handling and aerospace companies, in areas of service, operations, engineering, technology and sustainability. The portal currently already has more than 20 participating aviation companies including Changi Airport Group, Certis Cisco Aviation Security, SATS, Singapore Airlines and Rolls-Royce, posting over 1,430 aviation job positions.

The portal also provides information on Career Conversion Programmes for mid-career professionals seeking to join or move across job roles within the aviation sector. It helps them identify suitable training courses and equip them with the relevant skills and competencies.

b) Skills Upgrading

Job seekers and existing aviation professionals can also access aviation-specific recommended courses or employability skills workshops to help them develop, upskill, and reskill to enhance their employment opportunities within the sector.

c) Career Coaching

Job seekers or aviation professionals who need career advice to gain a better understanding of the aviation employment and training landscape and their career fit to an aviation role can sign up for an advisory session with a career coach through the portal. Job seekers can then consult with an e2i career coach who will assist with immediate job placement needs and long-term career development planning.

3        The OneAviation Careers Hub augments ongoing recruitment efforts in the aviation sector as it rebuilds its workforce in tandem with the recovery of the Changi air hub. In the last few months, the sector has been actively recruiting to support the ramp-up in air travel after Singapore re-opened its borders. This included the OneAviation Careers Fair, organised by CAAS in May 2022, which attracted some 11,000 job seekers and aviation enthusiasts. The sector has brought in 6,000 workers since the start of the year. The Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment Fair, held over two days from 20 to 21 October, is a continuation of the sector-wide recruitment efforts to boost the aviation workforce and power its recovery. The sector is on track to recovering over 90% of its pre-pandemic workforce by year-end.

4        Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General of the CAAS, said, “In the last few months, with the revival of air travel and our plans for Changi Airport Terminal Five, technology and sustainability, we are seeing renewed interest amongst Singaporeans in a career in aviation. The tripartite initiative provides one-stop access to the rich, diverse opportunities we offer and hopefully, we can have more Singaporeans join us, in writing the next chapter of Singapore aviation and work with us to take it to greater heights.”

5        Ms Cham Hui Fong, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General, said, “We are encouraged by the recovery of the sector and the good job opportunities that are available for our fellow Singaporeans. The OneAviation Careers Hub will be a good starting point for individuals who wish to explore a fulfilling career within the sector. NTUC’s Aerospace & Aviation cluster together with our affiliated unions will work closely with our union leaders and tripartite partners to better integrate our new entrants into the sector via our various air hub community initiatives.”

6        Ms Caryn Lim, CEO of e2i shared, “Rebounding from its trough, the Aviation industry needs our workers to be operationally ready. OneAviation Careers Hub is designed to be a bridge for job seekers and employers, in our endeavour to ramp up and sustain the industry’s needs through job matching, career coaching and training. By navigating OneAviation Careers Hub, job seekers will have a better idea of what they can expect by joining the sector and the skillsets they need to meet their career aspirations. The first event to kick off the launch of the portal is the Aerospace & Aviation Recruitment Fair that brings together more than 3,000 jobs from 28 employers.”
